Why Lacey, Washington?

Originally named Woodland, the town changed names to Lacey when they attempted to get a local Post Office and were denied because there was already a Woodland in Washington. So they settled on Lacey, most likely named after O. C. Lacey. Lacey Post Office was accepted and eventually the remainder of the town transitioned from Woodland to Lacey, as well.

The city of Lacey was not officially incorporated until 1966. While it began small, it’s distance to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Olympia and even Tacoma, enticed many to settle here. Lacey’s business friendly infrastructure continues to bring businesses.

Lacey sits to the east of Olympia and north of Tumwater. It has one of the most amazing parks systems in the state, including miles of walking, hiking and biking trails, 5 freshwater lakes, access to saltwater and Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge, along with 1,200 acres of park land and open space. Lacey also has the Premier Regional Athletic Complex.

With all the outdoor access, there are still plenty more to do with special events throughout the year. May has Lacey’s Spring Fun Fair, Lacey Firework Spectacular in July, Lacey In Tune Summer Concerts, Lacey Lighted Vehicle Parade in December and many, many more!
